In Loving Memory of Scot Anderson Ellen With full hearts and fond memories, we share the passing of Scot Anderson Ellen, who left us peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on February 27, 1960, at Andrews Air Force Base, Scot was a beacon of kindness and knowledge whose spirit touched the lives of many. Scot was the beloved son of Albert Stokes Ellen and Erma Browning Ellen. He was preceded in death by both his parents who raised him with values of integrity, compassion, and service—principles he carried throughout his life. His memory is cherished by his brother Craig Ellen and wife Kim of Greenville, NC; his sister Angela Ellen Tripp and husband Reid of Cary, NC; and his dear nieces and nephews: Kyle and Trent Ellen, Lauren Radford, and Dawson, Nicole, and Matthew Tripp. Each of them carries a special piece of Scot’s gentle spirit. A proud graduate of Kinston High School, Scot answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. Over the course of those eleven years, he traveled to many fascinating locations, but his time stationed in California ignited a lifelong love for the San Diego area, where he ultimately called home for more than 40 years. After his time in the Navy, Scot brought his talents and strong work ethic to Qualcomm, where he worked for many years before transitioning to the world of transportation. Whether behind the wheel of a taxi or shuttle, he never missed a chance to share a warm smile or a thoughtful conversation. Scot had a brilliant mind and an insatiable love of learning. He could talk for hours—if you let him—about music, sports, history, geography, and more. He had an uncanny memory and an appreciation for both the big picture and the smallest details. He was the family’s unofficial historian, trivia master, and go-to source for anything from classic rock to world capitals. His brother Craig fondly recalls how Scot’s deep love for music sparked his own—thanks to a shared collection of well-worn Billboard and Rolling Stone magazines, and many long afternoons spent listening and learning together. Though quiet in nature, Scot was proud of his Navy service and loved swapping stories about ships and ports with fellow veterans. He also had a playful side, and few things delighted him more than the excitement of a good horse race. Scot will be laid to rest at Pinewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Greenville, NC, reunited with his beloved parents. As we remember his life, his family invites all who knew him to carry forward his legacy of kindness, curiosity, and the joy he brought into the world.
